Informal practice of shariah and customary laws amongst the Pakistanis in Denmark: The project deals with shariah and customary ways of living & resolving disputes which are practised parallel to the official legal system of Denmark among the Pakistani immigrants. This is important for their social relations and identity within the community. The practice of informal shariah is dealt, to a great extent with regard to family matters. The majority of Muslim Pakistanis come from a rural background. This results in the existence of many varying customary practices from their different origin. Qualitative research material is gathered in Denmark, through interviews; by providing consultation to the private clients and municipalities; and working in contact with courts. In Pakistan records of the lower courts is observed which is not found in published form. Moreover, cases of people in Pakistani courts from Denmark are followed.
