Ravinder Kaur er lektor i moderne indien- og sydasienstudier. Hun er desuden centerleder af Asian Dynamics Initiative

Hun arbejder på tværs af disciplinerne historie, antropologi og international politik. Hendes forskning har fokus på to kerneforandringer i Indiens moderne historie - (a) 1990'ernes økonomiske liberalisering, og (b) dannelse af den moderne national-stat, opdelingen (Partition) og den tilknyttet flygtningepolitik.    

Hendes seneste forskningsprojekt handler om det postkoloniale Indiens transformation til et attraktivt vækstmarked i det 21. århundredes globale økonomi. Projektet beskæftiger sig med et gammelt spørgsmål mod nutidigt fokus – hvad er en nation i det 21. århundrede? Dette undersøges i en specifik kontekst af Indiens økonomiske oprejsning og i en bredere kontekst af BRIKS-nationer oprejsning i globale politik. Forskningen er blevet udgivet for nylig i form af monografien "Brand New Nation" (Stanford University Press, 2020 - se den virtuelle bogdiskussion her). 

Hendes tidligere forskningsprojekt havde fokus på opdelingen af Britisk Indien i 1947 i to uafhængige nationalstater - Indien og Pakistan. Det handlede specifikt om migration, hukommelse, flygtningepolitik og dannelse af moderne statsborgerskab i Indien. Denne forskning blev udgivet i form af monografien "Since 1947: Partition Narratives among the Punjabi Migrants of Delhi" (Oxford University Press 2007, 2018) og en række artikler i videnskabelige tidsskrifter. 

Hun har modtaget  The Carlsberg Foundation Semper Ardens Monograph Fellowship og undersøger den idehistorie om "økonomisk mirakler" og geo-økonomisk "frontiers" på tværs af Asien og Afrika. Hun har været forskningsleder af to kollektive projekter ‘Emerging Worlds: Explorations of New South-South Connections’ (2014-2019)‘ og Nation in Motion: Globalization, Governance and Development in New India’ (2010-2015 - afsluttet). Specifically, my area of expertise relates to the making of the postcolonial State, nation and nationalism; visual politics, histories of the Third World, emerging markets, refugee resettlement, Partition memory and citizenship.
